For more than a decade, Mr. Brown has excelled as the owner of Shi Lee’s BBQ and Soul Food Café in Amarillo, Texas. With his charitable organization, The Vessel of Humanity and Compassion, he strives to better the lives of disenfranchised individuals, especially children, by providing food, clothing, education and housing resources. Alongside his restaurant, Mr. Brown has also been a partner with the Children’s Fitness Center in Odessa, Texas.
As a community activist, Mr. Brown has served as the founder, president and organizer of an annual Christmas toy drive since 2012. He also organizes an annual water bash event and a truck-or-treat Halloween event. Mr. Brown is a donor to Martha’s Home, the Salvation Army and the Court Appointed Special Advocates.
For his work as a restaurateur and community activist, Mr. Brown was featured in the Amarillo Global News in 2021. He was also featured by ABC 7 News in 2020 and was on the cover of Amarillo Magazine. In addition to these recognitions, he has been on Myhighplains.com and multiple local news outlets.
Mr. Brown graduated from Palo Duro High School, with honors, in 1992, before completing coursework in mechanical and electrical engineering from the University of Texas. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, sports, ziplining, horseback riding and spending time with his daughter. Coming from a difficult upbringing, Mr. Brown is proud of finding success as a single parent. He lives by the words: “If you’re blessed with more, you should do more. It’s not about me; it’s about we.”
