Cartrell Cooper, co-owner and operator at Big D’s Dog Training Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dog training.
With 40 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Cooper has excelled as co-owner and operator of Big D’s Dog Training Co. since 1983. He began his career serving in the United States Air Force from 1985 to 1989 before finding success as a freelance photographer, manager, and lead evaluator with multiple search and rescue groups. He was active as owner of a pet food delivery service and later as a part-time receptionist at an animal cremation facility and a vet clinic. He garnered a stellar reputation as dean of students at the Cutting Edge Pet Grooming School and then as a veterinary technician and assistant at Brooklyn Hospital for 20 years. He continued his career as a pet groomer at a DoggyDaycare Training, Grooming, and Boarding facility since 2001.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Cooper pursued an education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1985. He concluded his academic efforts studying with the United States Air Force, graduating with a PhD in animal science. Prior to these accomplishments, he completed coursework in the K-9 Training Program at the United States Air Force Canine Academy. He holds an emergency medical technician certification, a dog first aid certification, and a pet care technician program certification.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Cooper has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He was a supporter of Fishing with Vets and donated his time and expertise as a volunteer dog trainer for service dogs for veterans and individuals with distressed children. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers. He competed in the American Kennel Club dog shows since 2004 and was featured in Millennium Magazine in 2023.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Cooper has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was recognized as a distinguished honor graduate for duty and performance by the United States Air Force Canine Academy and presented with the Lifesaving Award after saving the life of a woman who collapsed at a dog show, and another individual who collapsed at a show in Illinois. Additionally, he has received several letters of recommendation.
In the immediate future, Mr. Cooper intends to acquire more speaking engagement opportunities, book publishing deals and presentations as he is an aspiring book author. He also hopes to be involved with and featured in a dog-training TV program or online streaming series. Ideally, he would like to take on another training program and pursue a television contract.
