Lowell Walter Harris, Chief Executive Officer at Power In A Shower and Lawalt Home Improvement, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in Construction and Hygiene Care.

Mr. Harris has established a distinguished career spanning four decades, marked by expertise in construction and a steadfast commitment to humanitarian service. Since 2011, he has served as chief executive officer of Lawalt Home Improvement in the Bronx, New York. In this role, Mr. Harris oversees operations, demonstrating advanced proficiency in construction management and home improvement services, and solidifying his reputation as an expert in the field.

In early 2021, Mr. Harris also became the chief executive officer of Power In A Shower in the Bronx, New York. In this capacity, he connects and partners with health care professionals, institutions and government agencies to deliver essential hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Under his leadership, Power In A Shower provides warm showers, clean undergarments, toiletries, care packages and laundry services to those in need. The organization’s mission centers on compassion and restoring dignity, creating a stable environment where clients can regain confidence and re-engage with daily life. Mr. Harris has been instrumental in guiding the organization to collaborate with health care providers and social workers to support clients as they work toward employment, stable housing and reintegration into society.

In 2018, in partnership with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mr. Harris began converting a van into a mobile shower unit for use at warming centers in Connecticut during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evaluations showed that individuals reported improved sleep, increased confidence and renewed dignity, enabling them to pursue job interviews and seek assistance more effectively. As logistical limitations with the church-owned vehicle arose and demand grew in New Haven, Connecticut, Mr. Harris established Power In A Shower a few years later as a dedicated initiative to provide comprehensive hygiene services.

Mr. Harris’s dedication to serving underprivileged populations was shaped by early advice that meaningful service requires either shared lived experience or close collaboration with those who have endured hardship. Motivated by this guidance, he began visiting New York City streets on weekends to engage directly with individuals experiencing homelessness. Through these interactions, Mr. Harris gained insight into their daily realities and identified critical gaps in available resources, most notably limited access to showers.

Notably, in 2022, Southern Connecticut State University conducted an interview and research study on Power In A Shower, examining the impact of access to showers on the homeless population in Connecticut over one month. The findings, available online for educational purposes, highlight the transformative impact of access to hygiene on individual lives. Several newspapers and media outlets have since interviewed Mr. Harris about the positive impact of the organization’s work with those it serves, underscoring its success.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Harris served as a development manager at Camp Berkshire under the Greater New York Conference from 2008 to 2011. During this time, he oversaw facility improvements and coordinated development projects that enhanced camp operations and guest experiences. Mr. Harris’s experience also included carpentry work at Prince Wood Work Carpentry between 2006 and 2007, where he developed his technical skills and deepened his understanding of construction processes.

Mr. Harris’s professional journey is supported by several certifications that underscore his commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. He holds a lead paint renovation certification from Zack Academy, which is valid through 2030. Earlier, Mr. Harris maintained home improvement contractor and salesperson registrations with the Office of Consumer Affairs at the New York City Health Department from 2013 to 2021.

Beyond his professional roles, Mr. Harris is deeply involved in civic organizations dedicated to disaster response and recovery. Since 2005, he has served as a disaster response coordinator, a disaster recovery coordinator and a warehouse manager for Adventist Community Services. Additionally, Mr. Harris serves as a disaster response rebuild coordinator for the North American division of Adventist Community Services.

Throughout his career, Mr. Harris has demonstrated expertise in construction and an unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, qualities that continue to define his professional legacy and community impact. His humanitarian efforts have been recognized with multiple awards, including two Recognition Awards from New York Disaster Interfaith Services, recognition for spearheading a compassion movement from the Atlantic Union of Seventh-day Adventists, and several recognitions for humanitarian work from Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church and Omega Church in Connecticut.

Looking ahead, Mr. Harris envisions himself as a key contributor to ongoing services for individuals who are unhoused or experiencing destabilization. He believes that access to showers represents a critical first step toward housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Mr. Harris’s goal is to expand Power In A Shower into a nationally recognized organization for hygiene care across North America, collaborating with government health institutions to support systemic reform by expanding access to showers and hygiene services.
